Unless you’ve been living under a rock the last few months, you must’ve heard rumors that Apple is secretly working on an automobile. A car, to be exact. If the rumors prove true then this marks the second time Apple enters a new industry under Tim Cook’s leadership: first, the fashion industry with the Apple Watch and now, the automobile industry.
Developments in Apple’s hiring practices continue to shed light on this. As reported by The Wall Street Journal, Apple has hired Doug Betts, a former SVP at Chrysler. Betts will be taking a position within Apple’s “Operations” department. But for what role specifically is yet to be seen.
Apple remains tight-lipped so far about this report.
Truth be told, I am not much of an automobile guy but I would be very interested in knowing how Jony Ive, the famous designer of Apple’s products, intends to approach this. The most recent addition to his fantastic repertoire is the Apple Watch. But let’s be honest, designing an electric car of the future is a big leap from designing a smartphone.
