Since last month it’s been widely circulated that Samsung is looking to announce the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus on August 13, earlier than usual to pre-empt the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus to the market. But thanks to prolific leaker Evan Blass, all of us smartphone fans will be getting a good look at both flagships even earlier than that.
A full two weeks ahead of Samsung’s unveil, the official image for the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus was leaked online. The latter is exactly as you’d expect—similar to the S6 Edge but with a larger physical blueprint, and a gorgeous screen if I may add. The Note 5 differs from its predecessor in that it sports now the glass-and-metal design that Samsung started with the Galaxy S6, except with more pronounced and sharper corners and, of course, the Note line’s trademark S-Pen.
For good measure, the leaked image arrived with specs for the Note 5. The device features a handsome 5.66-inch 2560×1440 display showcasing Android 5.1.1. On the back is a 16-megapixel camera and on the front a 5-megapixel camera for your vanity selfies. Finally, all of this is powered by an octa-core Exynos 7420 processor, 4GB of RAM, and at least 32GB of storage.
For as long as I can remember I’ve never been a fan of big phones which is why I’m still rocking the iPhone 5c as I type this. But one cannot deny the existence of a market that’s hungry for smartphones with giant screens and powerhouse specs. A market that will surely be pleased when these two officially join Samsung’s lineup two weeks from now.
