While Facebook owns your family albums and vacation photos, Twitter wants to be the social network to deliver the latest news right at your fingertips.

According to Buzzfeed, Twitter silently rolled out an update to a select number of users that adds a fifth tab to the usual four: Home, Notifications, Messages and Me. Labeled “Trending News”, tapping on it presents you with a curated feed of trending news from around the world. Stories from major news organizations like The New York Times and CBS News are shown in screenshots by Buzzfeed.

Twitter later confirmed the report. “We're experimenting with a news experience on iOS and Android as we continue to explore new ways to surface the best content to users,” a Twitter spokesperson said in a statement.

This isn’t Twitter’s first attempt at bringing breaking stories to your feed. If you remember, the now-defunct “Discover” tab attempted to do something similar. While the feature did not gain enough traction among users, it did pave the way for Twitter to implement this exciting, more focused news feed.

Whether this experimental feature makes it to the rest of the world, only time will tell.
