As the cab pulled into the driveway outside Red Studio in Makati, I couldn’t help but notice the distinct purple hue of the strobe lights blending seamlessly into the clear evening sky. Heavily stylized electronic beats reverbated from inside the venue. It was the night where celebrities, social media influencers, and our fellow Ka-Globe gathered to celebrate the “social media movers and shakers” of the past 12 months.
Welcome to the Tatt Awards 2015!
"We are the only body that recognizes greatness in the social stage." - Dan Horan, Senior Adviser for Consumer Business Group
This year’s Tatt Awards played out a little differently. Eschewing award categories in favor of recognizing The Great 10 that cuts across various online topics, these ten awardees were handpicked by the Tatt Council from a wide pool of nominations made by the public.
The Tatt Council was composed of Jim Paredes, Bianca Gonzalez-Intal, Jinno Rufino, Mike Carandang, Daphne Osena-Paez, Quark Henares, Anna Oposa, Nix Nolledo, and Senator Bam Aquino.
Iced tea and my trusty iPhone in hand, I scooted over to the left side of the stage, passing a few familiar faces on the way, all smiles and clearly as pumped up as I was to find out who would make it to become one of The Great 10. Some of those in attendance were Wil Dasovich, Abbey Sy, Patty Tiu, Mara Lopez Yokohama, Tin Gamboa, and Jacob Benedicto.
What followed was series of cheers, laughter and widespread applause as the winners were announced. Slowly, the curtains pulled away to reveal The Great 10.
So Globe pals, without further ado, The Great 10:
- Jelito De Leon
- James Deakin
- Paolo Ballesteros
- Heneral Luna
- Top Gear PH
- Marcelo Santos III
- Juan Miguel Severo
- Eat Bulaga

Those in attendance took the stage to thank everyone for their support and for recognizing all their hard work into making social media a richer, fuller experience for all of us living digital lives.
Personally, I’m really impressed by this year’s roster of winners. Kudos to our Tatt Council for that! We capped off the event with desserts, drinks, and an eclectic mix of house and electronic music from none other than DJ Patty Tiu.
It’s only been a few hours since we wrapped up, and I am already looking forward to what social media has in store next year for us. And you can bet Tatt Awards will be there to recognize those achievements.
