Hi, Globe pals!
Have any plans today till Sunday? Head on over to the Link Ayala Center Makati this weekend to witness the best in Philippine Contemporary Art.
Here's a quick background about "Constellation" from Mark Salvatus:
Mark is a Filipino Contemporary artist living and working in Manila and Japan.
The project involves the participation of the fair visitors. It is about collecting imprints of coins that they have with them at that very moment. Tracing coins were done when we were kids as part of art classes in grade school. Mark will be collecting these on tracing paper and leaving it on a given wall. Papers and pencils are provided and tables and chairs are part of the installation.
The idea is a simple activity has some similarity with Mark's previous project "Wrapped" 2007-2012, completed in among other places, Korea and for the Singapore Biennale in 2010.
The project's working title "Constellation" talks about different layers of issues, art and economy, but also about travel, globalization, cross-cultural exchange and so on. In a fair context, people come from different backgrounds and places and it becomes a venue for trade and transaction, not only of money but also of ideas and experiences that can inter-connect with each other. The traces will be installed on a wall that eventually form a constellation of coins/imprints that from afar will look like stars.
The venue is also perfect since Makati is the financial hub of Manila. As we all know, economies of the world are connected to each other, so the coins that we have takes part in the globe economy, be it 1 Peso or 100 Yen, we are all part of the transaction.
The outcome of the "constellation" will have the element of surprise because even Mark doesn't know what will result -- the participation determines the outcome.
Let's collaborate for an #InspiringWorld! Find inspiration in the mundane. Just like these coin sketches turned into art!
