When you request for an extension line from a phone company like Globe or PLDT, you are actually paying for a BUNDLE that includes the installation of the line (including a certain number of meters), its maintenance and the monthly rental and maintenance of the company provided unit.
You could have saved a lot by providing your own contractor to do the job and using the unit that you have as long it has been certified by the phone company as compatible to their system.
